Position:
Communications Manager
Hours: 120 to 160 hours per month on average
Compensation: $30 to $40/hour, depending on experience
Timing: open until filled
Reporting structure: Reports to Executive Director, Jenelle Ludwig Krause

Position Overview:

The Communications Manager is responsible for creating people centered narratives for GROWW and GROWW Action. The Communications Manager will convey the tone, voice and branding of our organization by telling our story. This will be accomplished in part by creating graphic styles and crafting language for toolkits for the organization and our projects.

The Communications manager will be a creative storyteller putting our people at the center of our power building. The Communications manager manages all our communication platforms including mass emails, social media, local media and our websites. The Communications Manager will have one direct report, the Communications Associate.

This is a remote position although attending in-person meetings and events will at times be necessary. We will give preference to candidates living in our 7 county area of Barron, Buffalo, Dunn, Pepin, Pierce, Polk and St. Croix. Many events are on weekends or evenings.

Qualifications:

  • Strong commitment to GROWW and GROWW Actionā€™s mission and passion for grassroots organizing and storytelling.
  • Great collaborator and able to work independently.
  • Able to juggle multiple day-to-day deadlines while also carving out time to do deep work on messaging and branding.
  • Able to identify and tell compelling people centered stories of power building and transformation.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Love working with people – both colleagues and volunteers, with curiosity to understand others.
  • Desire to learn.
  • Good analytical and strategic skills.
  • Good eye for great design.
  • Excellent technology skills.
  • Knowledge of social media platforms such as Facebook and Instagram, and website software such as WordPress and contact management software such as EveryAction.
  • Comfortable working in Google Workplace or desire to learn.
  • Interest to learn or previous knowledge of Race Class Narrative.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee communications for GROWW and GROWW Action including budget and team structure.
  • Tell the story of our organization and projects, in coordination with the executive director and the organizers of the various projects.
  • Build our GROWW and GROWW Action brands.
  • Create messaging toolkits, statements, press releases and talking points.
  • Collaborate with statewide and/or national communications campaigns as appropriate.
  • Manage and coordinate content for all platforms and suggest changes. Current platforms include Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, websites.
  • Send out monthly newsletters.
  • Get training and learn new skills as needed.
  • Create monthly analytic reports to track engagement and growth and to identify trends and potential points of improvement.
  • Stay up-to-date with social platform algorithms and best practices to ensure effective social media campaigns.
  • Recruit and manage volunteers and other paid consultants as needed to take on tasks in implementing the communications strategies.
  • Manage one or more direct reports.
