Food Independence Day

How independent are we? Local Food For All would love to find out!

Make your Fourth of July picnic this year be a declaration of another kind of independence—celebrate Food Independence Day! Assemble your meal from as much local food as you can find, whether it’s from your own garden, cadged from your neighbors’ garden (just kidding, if you ask nicely she’ll probably be happy to share), purchased from the farmers market or local co-op, or foraged from the woods. We’re defining “local” as being within 150 miles of your home, but we aren’t going to be overly strict on that.

Take a picture of your meal, write a description of the various locally sourced items, and post it on Instagram or Facebook at #foodindependencedaywi Share this with your friends!

When we have a strong local food system, we are better able to take care of ourselves and our neighbors in times of trouble. Keeping food dollars in our community is like adding compost to the garden—we all thrive in the richness of our local economy.
